2025-01-18 (Sunday) Sunbears, Pool, Milkshakes, Gym, Top Restaurant

Earlyish breakfast, then headed to the Sunbears. It was an amazing setup with so much information.

Explored our neighbouring resort to see if we could go in their pool, but it looked very run down. Then we asked if we could go into the clamping pool, and we could! We went up there, and we had it all to ourselves for around 45 mins before a family turned up. I won the running races, and loads of photos were taken.

Milkshakes! Wings, corn ribs too!

Headed to the gym - very cool, then to the middle of Sandakan where we scouted out a nice restaurant - went to a Chinese which looked good - and it was! Baby Kailan which Paish loved, salted butter chicken which Rox loved, noodles and rice. It was amazing, again!

2025-01-17 (Saturday) Paish Arrives! Urangutans, Milkshakes, Seafood!

Picked up Paish at airport after our first buffet breakfast at Forest Edge - so funny to see her arrive!

Rox and I did our strength work on the lawn while a lizard watched on, and changed colour while we were at it - lunges, wall sits, sit-ups, pushups.

Watched BES while Paish slept, then walked to the Orangutans. The enclosure was excellent - they were so active, the big male one came out, mother and baby, and the sole monkey stole food from the big guys. But only one went to the forest feed. Most people left, but the die-hards were rewarded with 3 more that came late to the party.

Explored the resort next to ours (Banana Cafe) - it was trash, so we went back to our and we all had amazing milkshakes - me and Rox and fruit ones, and mummy and Paish had Milo and Cookies and Cream - so yum!

Chilled until dinner, and went to D74 Sim Sim Seafood. What an experience! In the middle of nowhere, we had to walk through a floating village to get to a very rough restaurant. The food was nice, but it did feel like we were not going to fare well. Paish made s couple of friends too, which was nice! Took a while to get home as no one really wanted to drive out into the middle of nowhere.

But what an adventure!

2025-01-16 (Friday) West to East - our 12 hour tour! Waterfalls, Tea Plantation

We started at 5.50, and arrived in Forest Edge Resort at 6.30 - wowser!

We started with a 2 hour ride to our first stop and saw Kinabalu through the clouds - treks were cancelled today due to the weather. I rescued a beautiful moth from the bathroom, and another beetle that was being kicked around by a boy who shied away when I wanted him to touch it, when we stopped for coffee overlooking the valley - that was pretty cool.

The best stop was at the waterfall / hot springs. We couldn’t find the hot springs, so we hunted for a private place we could go into the waterfall, and found it - it was so nice! Once we got out though, it started to pour down, which was pretty cool!

We stopped off at a tea plantation where Rox had the best Kwey Teaw ever! I had chicken soup noodles, and mummy had clay pot rice. It was so nice. We swapped drivers, and finished off with a 4 hour stretch to Sandakan.

Forest Edge is so cool - so remote, our houses are in the middle of the forest, and the sounds are incredible! You can never get tired of being surrounded by nature!

Lamb shank, fish, meatballs, and sweetcorn ribs - yummy! BES to finish off the night!
