2025-01-15 (Thursday) Floating Mosque, Markets, Pool, Italian!

We wanted pastries for lunch, but had to settle for Portuguese tarts and coffee!

Set off for the floating mosque - we had to all dress up as muslims, which was pretty funny until it got really hot! We sat in the mosque for around an hour just watching, then headed out, relieved to get the outfits off!

We then headed to the Filipino Market, which was a little bit of an anti-climax as all the shops were the same, apart from one that had some lovely wood statues, and the lady knew she could not sell them to us due to our laws. What a shame, but she was lovely. Cool seeing all the men outside sewing and working on clothes, plus the odd sunglasses man. University tour guide tried to sell us a tour - er, no thanks.

We headed home for a lovely dip in our pool and some competitions! Rox challenged me again to a running race, and lost badly! She was gutted, so she challenged me to a shorter one, and lost! Then to a backstroke race, and lost again! “The water was hurting my eyes!” She cried - sure sure…

We all wanted Italian, so we went to the waterfront, and found Toscini’s - we had Alio Olio, Rox had Penne, and we shared a Margherita - it was lovely! We stopped off at a dessert cafe near the Jesselton Pier - we had cheesecake, Tiramisu, coffee and matcha. Cool place and Mummy was a little scared when she was trying to find where me and Rox went.

Home for BES!

2025-01-14 (Wednesday) Island Hopping - Mamituk and Sapi

Set off just after 8 to Jesselton Pier to catch a ferry - as soon as we got out of the Grab, someone approached us, and I thought he looked okay (even though he was a tout), so we followed him to his vape shop where he sold us a 2 island boat trip with snorkels, which was okay - could have been cheaper, and it really felt like a scam when they told us to find some random guy on the pier! We asked them to show us, which they did and in the end we ended up with our own private boat! How funny! The boat trip was crazy - so bumpy dog!

Mamituk was tiny, and we walked to where the rocks were and snorkelled there which was okay - no coral, but shoals of rainbow / parrot fish. Everywhere else was pretty crowded though. We did see a monitor lizard which was awesome.

After an hour, we headed to Sapi which was even more crowded, so we decided to track through the jungle to find a secluded beach - we actually found the end of the zip line from the other bigger island - it was closed, so we just sat there and took in the view - it was pretty cool. We tried to get some food, but nothing. We ended up snorkelling and actually saw a lot - eel, stingrays, huge hermit crabs, loads of fish. It was pretty cool. Mummy lost the snorkel, but we managed to sneak it back without them noticing.

Rox and I went to the gym - so lucky to have that, and it was fun! Rox showed me some exercises that may help my leg, and I think they work! Went in the pool after, and I lost a running race to Rox as my leg was hurting - she was pretty happy about it - RE-VEN-GAAAAEEEEEEEE!

We went to out to KK Garden Seafood at Kampung Ari, and had the most amazing meal - salted egg crab, squid with egg floss, kai lan, and fried rice - so nice! We almost ordered a huge steamed fish, and we were so glad we didn’t - we were stuffed!

We walked around the markets and bought mangosteen for pudding - so nice!

What a funny day! BES!
