Clara: Wow, this is so exciting! Me and Mummy on tour together! Hilarious!
It was such an amazing tournament, and there were some great teams there. Every day was such a challenge and so exhausting.
Shooters-Annecy, Teagan, Chloe and Jahnae
Midcourt-Maddie, Tom, Mia and Clara
Defenders-Lana, Selemana, Ava and Emily
Day 1-We had three games today and our first game was against Queensland. They were a very strong team and we lost by 10. We were rattled by there strength , but we were looking forward to playing them again next round. We smashed Northern Territory 47 to 7. We then versed New South Wales. We were ahead most of the game, but then played excellent in the last quarter to win by 4 goals. This was the first time WA had beaten NSW in over 4 years!
Day 2-Dad took me to the airport where I met with my team. We arrived in Canberra to a cold 12 degrees. We got in our bus and drove to the Adina hotel. I was roommates with Emily and Jahnae and I had a double bed all to myself!
Day 3-Today it was our tour day! We visited Parliament house, a lake, the Telstra Tower which are all iconic things to do in Canberra. We then went to the stadium, did some training and practiced our chant!
Day 4-We did our chant before every game, then played 4 10 minute quarters, but each person could only have 8 quarters of playing a day. Our first game was Budgies and it was really intense, but thankfully we ended up winning by 1 point due to Tom wasting time obstructing. We then versed Victoria and we lost by 1 point! We played ACT last and it was even up to the last quarter where we ran away with a 12 point win. I played 8 quarters today and I was pooped!
Day 5-We versed South first and lost by quite a but, they were just such tall and strong bodies, but we could have played a lot better. We then played Northern Territory and smashed them 45 to 4. Then we played against Queensland. They were the strongest team in the tournament and they were unbeaten. We were up by 1 or 2 throughout the whole game and we ended up winning by4! This was a major accomplishment, being the only team to have beaten the unbeatable's!
Day 6-We went to visit the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) with all the other states. My group was a mixture of all states and my friend from Victoria (Bonnie) was in my group and we got along really well! We saw the pool, gymnastics floor, water polo pool and the gym and it was a very fun day finished off nicely with a lovely buffet.
Day 7-This day was vital to us placing! We versed Victoria first and it was an intense game! Both teams made a few mistakes and we were very evenly matched! The final score was a draw. We versed Budgies next and we lost by 1 which was hard to take. Our coach (Bree) started crying as she thought she had let us down. She then picked our spirits up and made us determined to beat South Australia. It was a close game, but we had the determination and we worked together to win by 10! What a day!
Day 8-Today we only had 2 games, but to get bronze we had to win both games. Our first game was against NSW and we were nervous as we had a lot of pressure to win. We rose to the occasion and beat NSW confidently. We then played ACT and we had so much confidence we beat them easily.
Wow, We had received the bronze medal. Queensland got gold, South Australia got silver and Victoria and us (Western Australia) got bronze. We were so happy, all our hard work paid off. We had such an awesome team spirit and it was an amazing tour that I will never forget!
We won some amazing games, but lost a couple of silly games.
