2015-10-03 Day 7 - Daddy's Birthday / River Markets / Massage for Everyone!

Wow, and early 530 start on my birthday! What the...

We were going on a guided trip to the river markets with our guide Lily. We took a boat to the floating market which was a little stormy, but very cool! We got some bread and pineapple for breakfast. It was a crazy market, where boat people stuck an example on their merchandise on a stick so people could see what they were selling. We then went to a land market which was fascinating. We bought mangos and rambutans for next to nothing. We got home at around 10, and the girls had a surprise cake for me bought by Tee, the manager. We all then got the best ever massage and Daddy fell asleep with Willow on his shoulder - it was sooooo cute!

We had noodles and chicken for lunch, then we decided to go for a quick bike ride. Just as we pulled out of Green Village, Roxy fell backwards off her bike and off the bridge down into a really muddy part of the Mekong! Daddy jumped down and reached to rescue Roxy who was in shock! Both Daddy and Roxy ended up with some scrapes. Our bike ride was fun though in the end. We almost got lost, but we found our way home.

We decided to go to the night market to get something to eat. We bought some souvenirs, and then had a very spicy dinner, and an iced cookies & cream drink. Saw floating restaurant. Got back for our fruit time at 9pm.

2015-10-02 Day 6 - Arrival at Green Village in the Mekong Delta

Woke to gibbons song! We left Luan's place on a long car ride to the Mekong Delta. We played some funny games along the way, and arrived at Green village at around 1pm.

We had lunch, then set out on an awesome 2hr boat ride on the Mekong visiting a crocodile farm. Daddy slipped over getting out the boat, which was very funny. It was the most beautiful river cruise, and allowed us to really see how the locals lived and used the river for absolutely everything!

For dinner we had the best fish ever - elephant eared fish from the Mekong, likely caught that day! It was amazing! We ate everything down to the bone!

2015-10-01 Day 5 - Bike Trek to Ta Lai Long House

Mummy spotted the centipedes trying to get back into our room! Daddy tried to stop them, but failed badly. In the end, we had to move rooms - Daddy was funny. He said he fought valiantly against the centipede and when it got life threatening he pulled back...

Breakfast, then we moved rooms - ah, no centipedes! Set off after 9, hired dodgy bikes for ride to village. Crazy bike ride along a rocky, muddy road which had peacocks, water buffalo and all sorts of other creatures. Loads of fun. Got to Ta Lai Longhouse, had some fruit and lunch. Met an English volunteer called Matt who had been there a year - interesting, but wasn't really interested in us. Hammocks were funny, badminton, lots of cats and dogs, and we walked along the river. Cycled back which was great fun. Home to relax. There was a huge downpour which was wonderful, and Paish and Dad went for a walk to explore creatures. Scary stuff!

2015-09-30 Day 4 - Crocodile Lake

Up at 730, set off 830 on ferry, then went on a crazy pickup truck to the start of a 2.5 hour hiking trail to Crocodile Lake. Amazing rain forests, and soooo remote. No one else on the trail. Monkeys, lizards, wierd spikes insects, leeches, snakes snails, pigs, spiders, birds. Damp undergrowth, and loads of mossies. Saw the huge tree that we missed out on yesterday - very impressive. 1.75 hr until lake.

Met Romano a young Frenchman who was just travelling and ideally looking for a volunteer position somewhere in the park - he must be on an amazing journey. Only wanted to roam, 20 years old. Saw 4 crocs! Stayed until 2pm.


Got back to road at 345. Romano turned up, and we offered him a lift on the crazy ride back home with his bike.

Got back home and discovered some massive poisonous centipedes - the biggest in the world apparently! They were as long as my forearm! Lovely chicken dinner, and then we discovered more centipedes!
