2017-09-27 (Wednesday) - Day of the Orang Utans and The Amazing Kayak Race

Woke at 8 - true Borneo breakfast - Kolo Mee, Laksa, and CB had toast!

Van to pick up Daniel, dropped Beko’s wife off, and then into the jungle! It only took 30 mins to get there, and saw the most serene feeding of orang-utans! It was beautiful. Not too many people there too. We explored the crocs and the gallery, then headed off to our kayaking.

Who would have believed the kayaking could have been so amazing! Started off scorching hot, then after 4k we stopped for lunch. We passed undisturbed rain forest, and the most beautiful overhangs. Lovely lunch - kolo see, sandwiches and sweets. After lunch another 7km of beautiful jungle and mountainous outcrops. We had a swim at one point in the middle of a downpour, and Beko climbed up the cliff and jumped off a tree into the river - that was cool! Aiysha was with Mummy, and Clara was with me. We all had our little obstacles and challenges. We had one point where we had to negotiate some rapids, and we wished we had more of it - it was really cool fun! We finally finished at 2.30, and went to Beko’s village to dry off a little, then home. It was fun to meet Daniel who looked a bit jet lagged and exhausted, but he was fun to chat to. He had travelled around South America for 16 months!. What a day!

We relaxed in the afternoon with some tea and tarts, then headed into town. Finally found the layer cake lady, and bought two! Had our crab with butter and salted egg while the girls had duck. An amazing meal. Headed back.

Pit, cake, bed.
